Places to eat in Belmopan (less than 4 miles from Rock Farm)

Corkers Restaurant, Hibiscus Plaza, Belmopan

This is daughter and son-in-law’s business, so naturally we are biased. But it genuinely is the best place to eat in Belmopan for variety, quality, price and ambiance. It’s situated upstairs at the Hibiscus Plaza/Hotel in the centre of Belmopan behind Belize Bank, close to the bus terminal.

Pasquales Pizza Place, Forest Drive, Belmopan

Pizza, pasta, wings, subs etc. On the corner of Forest Drive. They have nice wooden benches outside on the verandah. It’s next to the road but it is actually quite pleasant.

Garden City Chinese, Mountain View Boulevard, Belmopan

Chinese and Cantonese dishes and excellent spicy Szechuan. Make your way into Belmopan via Forest Drive. Turn right at the Forest Drive/Ring Road T junction and then left at the Shell gas station, and first right by Educo-gym. Garden City Chinese is about 500 yards on the left, the last in a bank of shops and offices with Garden City Hotel written across the top of the building. 822-1541

Wing Stop, Mountain View Boulevard, Belmopan

Pleasant outdoor area selling chicken wings. It can feel a little unsafe after dark, although it’s generally okay. It’s located just past Garden City Chinese on a corner opposite Garden City Plaza / Atlantic Bank

Bullfrog Inn, Ring Road, Belmopan

A mix of basic local and American cuisine. Follow the ring road past the Mexican Embassy and British High Commission, then past Belize House (Governor General’s Residence) and the tennis courts. The Bullfrog is about 3/4 mile further on, on the right hand side after the first big bend in the ring-road. It’s well signed and well lit. This is NOT fast food - leave plenty of time for this dining option.

Chon Saan Palace, George Price Boulevard, Belmopan

Another good Chinese. Follow the ring road past the British High Commission, then Belize House (Governor General’s Residence) and the tennis courts. Take the left turn by Farmhouse Deli and immediate right onto Lim Ni Punit Street. Follow the road around and take either of the left turns. Chon Saan is large, well-signed building, straddling the land between those two roads about 300 yards down on your left or right depending on which road you took!

Caladium Restaurant, next to bus terminal, Belmopan

A great place for local food and breakfast, opposite the bus station. They close around 9pm.

Oasis Restaurant, Belmopan

More local cuisine. Coming toward Belmopan, turn right at the roundabout next to Quality Poultry. About 200 yards down take the right turn under an arched metal-work sign for Oasis. It’s a lovely rustic setting but they are only open weekday lunchtimes and (gasp) they don’t serve alcohol!

La Cabana Bar & Nightclub, Las Flores

Local food, burgers, meats etc. Go toward Belmopan and straight over both the Quality Poultry roundabout and the ’Marion Jones’ roundabout (with a concrete ’running man’ in the centre) Cabana is a large thatched building on your left hand side, about 200 yards past the roundabout. It’s well lit and well signed. It’s also a night club with karaoke on Sundays and ladies night on Thursdays. It can get loud!

Farmhouse Deli, Nim Li Punit Street, Belmopan

Absolutely gorgeous interior. A first-class deli with bakery and chacuterie. Lots of local home and farm produce to eat in or take away. Their menu uses fresh, local ingredients. Worth a lunch stop if you’re in town. Follow the ring road past the British High Commission, then Belize House (Governor General’s Residence) and the tennis courts. Take the left turn by Farmhouse Deli and immediate right onto Lim Ni Punit Street.

El Rancho, George Price Highway

On the highway going out toward Belize City - approx. 1 mile from the Guanecaste roundabout on the left hand side. Local food, cold beers.

Apolin, Hummingbird Highway

This is on the road out of Belmopan toward Dangriga (Hummingbird Highway) approx. 1 mile from the last roundabout (with the ‘running man’ statue). There’s signposted turning to the left about half a mile past La Cabana. Be careful as the driveway is extremely steep. They serve Spanish tapas and Mediterranean cuisine with some seafood and absolutely fabulous oven-baked pizza. It is pricey here but the pizza are the best value in town by a long way.

Blue Moon, Hummingbird Highway

On the last roundabout out of Belmopan (with the ‘running man’ statue) on the left hand side. It’s Lebanese food including all of the traditional Lebanese favourites plus streaks, chops and other meats. Lots of garlic!

Lucky Star Restaurant, Hummingbird Highway

This is close to the Blue Moon, on the Hummingbird Highway just before you get to the last roundabout. It’s another Chinese restaurant and only opened in November 2016 so we don’t yet have a review.

Scotchies, Hummingbird Highway

Opposite the Lucky Star, Scotchies is a beautiful outdoor setting with a cosy bar area and lovely gardens. The food is mainly jerk chicken and pork with basic sides although they are now beginning to expand the menu.

Other Places to Eat

There are plenty of Chinese restaurants in Belmopan and most are good. The market area food stalls are great value local food: panades, salbutes, garnaches, empanadas, or the ubiquitous rice and beans with stew of the day. There are also two excellent Indian food stalls opposite the market next to the Fire Station.

Evening entertainment

There’s a couple of pool bars - Mike’s Pool Room (off Mountain View Bvd) and Chino’s Bar (behind Jimmy’s Wireless near Scotia Bank) are good. Cabana also has a pool table. Smoke Stack (next to Blue Moon) does Karaoke on a Friday night. La Cabana, Wingstop, El Rancho and Smoke Stack are all open late.
